Welcome To Seattle, Washington
The Emerald
City!
This page is under constant development and I will
spare you most of all the satire and dark humor for now. If you want to learn a
little more about Seattle and the surrounding area, here are a few great links:
 |
Seattle A great evening view of Seattle, The Emerald City, with the majestic
Mount Rainier in the distance. This is a view looking south (over the Seattle
Center) from Queen Anne Hill. If you look closely, directly under Mount Rainier,
through the buildings, you can see just a little bit of the once famous Kingdome.
Below are some links to some of the more interesting and
informative sites in and around Seattle.

Space Needle There's nothing like The Space Needle anywhere in this world!
Constructed for the 1962 World's Fair, the Space Needle is "the" icon of
Seattle.
External elevators that run up and down the central support
of the Space Needle gives visitors a breathtaking view of Seattle as the ascend and
descend. At the top, the "saucer" rotates a full 360-degrees to give
diners in the restaurant and visitors on the observation deck a beautiful view of the city
in any direction.
Also, The Space Needle is used to stage a very impressive
fireworks display every New Year's Eve.

Space
Needle website. |

The Kalakala The "Art Deco" ferry, The Kalakala is another famous
Seattle icon. Resurrected from a burnt out hulk in the San Francisco
bay and and rebuilt as as a ferry to serve passengers on Puget Sound during the 1930s,
The Kalakala plied the waters of Puget Sound for more than
30 years. It was later retired to serve as a seafood processing
facility in Alaska and beached on a desolate island shore.
Recently rescued, where it had been beached in Alaska, by a
local artist and entrepreneur, The Kalakala returned home to Seattle for
restoration. Now bankrupt, The Kalakala Foundation auctioned
off this venerable ship to the highest bidder. Soon to return home to
the San Francisco Bay area, this piece of of Northwest history will become a
waterfront museum in California.
Click on the image at the right to view its return home
to Puget Sound. Below is the
link to the ferry's official website so you can learn more about saving the "Battering
Ram" of Puget Sound.

The Kingdome It has been a few years since
the "infamous" Kingdome stood out in the Seattle skyline. Originally
built as a multi-purpose sports/event venue, the Kingdome hosted nearly
everything from ball games to major Rock concerts. After nearly a
quarter century of service, sport teams (and fans) wanted a world-class
stadium. On 26 March 2000, the dome was brought down to make room for
Safeco Field (The Mariners current home) and Qwest Stadium (home to the
Seahawks).

The Seattle Mariners I love a good baseball game and I am an honorary member of the Seattle
Rainiers (1956). I was also childhood fan of the Seattle Pilots (now the Milwaukee
Brewers) and now a big fan of those "M's"!
The Mariners had a great "come from behind" 1995
season - especially the cliff-hanger game 5 against the New York Yankees for shot at the
World Series. Randy Johnson may be pitching for Arizona, "Junior" fielding for
Cincinnati and A-Rod working Short-Stop for Texas, but the Mariners just keep getting
better.
Click on the Mariner's logo to visit the official Mariner's
website! We still have an all-star team worthy of being world champions! |

The Seattle Seahawks What about those Seahawks - a team everyone
loves to hate. After the much loathed Ken Behring tried to destroy the team so he
could move them to California, the "Hawks" have rebounded in recent
years.
A new owner, new coaching and a
renewed team spirit, the Seattle Seahawks are on their way to becoming contenders in the
Superbowl. I always root for the home team no matter what happens. Still, I
hate seeing those interceptions by the other teams.
As they battle to be Super Bowl contenders, I will be there
rooting for them. Click on their logo to visit their official website. |
Diving in freeway is my favorite
pass-time (not!), as I have driven many miles in it. For a look at
the worst traffic in the United States, (a distinction Washington State
transportation officials would rather not be recognized for) click on the image
below to link up with the Washington State Department Of Transportation traffic
flow maps and freeway "web-cams" for the Seattle Area!
Eh, sometimes driving Seattle's
freeway system and dealing with the traffic is much like a vehicular mayhem
scene from the Mel Gibson movie: "The Road Warrior"!
[Note: To see some really messed up freeway
traffic, wait until Friday afternoon - especially when it is a Friday before a holiday
weekend - (sometime after 3 PM Pacific should do it), then check the weather conditions
for Seattle, WA. If it is raining, click on the image below and behold grid-lock at its
finest! Fridays, Rain and holiday weekends are a winning combination for traffic
grid-lock. It usually never fails!]
