Note: MRS. HARRISON ASH KILLS SYL TREADWAY
Claims she mistook him for her husband, Harrison Ash.
Husband and Wife Were Quarrelling When Life-Long Friend Attempted to Pacify Them and is Killed.---Woman Uses Winchester Rifle.
Sylvester Treadway, better known as “Syl” Treadway was shot and instantly killed last Saturday night about eight o’clock at the home of Harrison Ash at Deepwater, by Ash’s wife who claims she mistook him for her husband who but a few moments before had threatened her life.
Harrison Ash who is known to almost every man, woman and child in Fayette County was recently released from the insane asylum, and last Saturday he and his wife got into a fight. It is claimed that she struck him over the head with a dish and he retaliated by hitting her on the head with a revolver which he took away from her. Mrs. Ash claims that Harrison threatened to shoot her and she ran to her bedroom where she kept a Winchester rifle, and chased him from the house.
While the two were quarreling their daughter, Dorothy, ran across the street and called to Treadway to come and separate them.
Mrs. Ash heard some one approaching the door and she claims that she thought her husband was returning to kill her. She warned him not to enter or she would kill him. Treadway stepped into the doorway and Mrs. Ash fired at him. The bullet passed through his chest and pierced the wall behind.
Treadway was about 60 years of age and had been a friend of the Ash’s for years. He lived at Meadow Fork and had gone to Deepwater to visit the Ash’s. He was rooming in a building across the road from the Ash house..3
