Note: Her date of birth is based on her age listed in the 1920 census where she was living in the household of William Edward Bailey and family. Mary Catherine once lived near Ansted, West Virginia and ran a boarding house. She died at age 63 of a cerebral hemorrhage. She had two brothers: Edward who lived in Sparks, West Virginia and another brother Bud who married Molly Smailes. According to Ruth Legg, Grandma Payne always hated her grey hair so she always wore a bonnet and hairpiece. Also, she is buried at Glasgow on a hill across the road from a little 1800's church along Route 60. She and Emmett, her husband, once lived at Klystith, near Harvey in the Oak Hill area which no longer appears on maps of Fayette County. She continued to live with her son-in-law, Ed Bailey for some years af ter her daughter Henrietta died and he had taken a new bride.
The informant of her death was Amanda Martin of Glasgow, West Virginia. Her death is recorded by Kanawha County, West Virginia Certificate of Death #5075
