Waynesboro, Va. - Lena M. Dempsey White, 90, formerly of Ansted, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2006, in Crimora, Va., at the home of her daughter Marjorie Smith, following a long illness.
She was born on May 7, 1915 at Ansted; she was the daughter of the late Edward Dempsey and Beulah May Harrison Dempsey.
Mrs. White was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Ansted. She attended Ansted High School, and she was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Oscar White, on May 19, 1991; two sisters, Janavee Frank and Emily Saplak; and one brother, Bernard H. Dempsey.
Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie Smith of Crimora, Va.; four sons, Howard O. White and wife Harriette of Lansing, Thomas A. White and wife Martha of Waynesboro, Va., Douglas E. White and wife Teresa of Clarksburg, and John A. White and wife Terry of Mt. Nebo; one sister, Othelia Rippetoe of Sour Lake, Texas; one brother, John George Dempsey of Oak Hill; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Father Roy Gene Crist officiating. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Ansted.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
