Note: Austin F. Burgess is often confused with Austin Burgess, the latter being the son of Hiram B. Burgess and Nancy Bowling.

Austin's birth (about 1811) does not fit into the family of Hiram & Nancy, as they were married about 1815. It is highly unlikely that, according to family tradition, Austin was born four (4) years before the marriage of Hiram & Nancy.

Here, it is more than probable that Austin is the oldest child born to James Burgess and Rachel Huddleston.

Austin F. Burgess consistently appears in U. S. Federal Census records as living very close to James & Rachel Burgess. Living in such close proximity to James & Rachel appears to indicate that Austin is their son.
