Henry and two infant children are buried on the south side of the Pea Ridge Freewill Baptist Church about 25 feet south of the center window in unmarked graves. These graves can no longer be located today. Rodney Kenneth Deshields knew where these graves were located as he visited this church in 1930 on a vacation from Sandusky, Ohio with his parents. At that time Zephiniah Deshields (his father), Uncle Tom Graham Alexander, and two of his brothers visited this church and graveyard. Uncle Tom said this is where grandfather Henry Deshields was buried, as he had helped dig the grave. Uncle Dan Deshields also told him where the grave was. His father Zephiniah, and Uncle Dan were the only two sons who knew the graves location. The Pea Ridge Freewill Baptist Church is located Southeast of Route 37, as you come off the sound bridge. In 1998 Rodney K Deshields placed a marker near the spot of the grave. The building has been expanded and now probably covers the original grave. - Rodney K Deshields |
