Hallie Homer Baker,

Of Lincoln County

Perhaps no young business man in Lincoln county is better or more favorably known among his home people than is Hallie H..Baker, both as to his personal character and business ability and integrity. He was born in Hamlin, on July 14 th, 1878, and has spent all of his life in his native county. He is a son Dr. W. W. Baker a well-known business man, now of Huntington, W. Va.

"Hal Baker, as he is familiarly called by his friends, early developed business tact and displayed that energy and application which is a sure indication of a successful business career. Having completed the common school course of stu dies, he entered with avidity into the labors of a clerkship in his father's general mercantile establishment, and by devotion to business and politeness to all, won the respect and friendship of all who had dealings with him.

He is now engaged in merchandising at Hadley, Lincoln county, where he has charge of and personally manages the business of his firm. He is also interested in several important development enterprises at Hadlev and other points along Guyan, and individually owns some very fine coal property in that section.

In personal appearance Mr. Baker is a typical West Virginian, finely developed, erect, courtly, and dignified in bearing, and easy of approach. He makes friends readily and holds them firmly by his uniform courtesy and devotion.

He is a Republican in politics, and has for some years taken an active part in county politics. He has never held office or been a candidate, but should he enter the field as a candidate he would develop exceptional strength among those who know him best, and if chosen to office would bring to the discharge of his duties that zeal and energy which has ever characterized his career, and would successfully and satisfactorily perform his full duty.

H. H. Baker, Former Lincoln Sheriff, Dies

H. H. 'Hal' Baker, 66, Hamlin, former sheriff of Lincoln county, died at 1 p.m. yesterday in Huntington Hospital. Elected sheriff on the Republican ticket in 1904, he served one term. He was director of the Lincoln National Bank for about 20 years. A son of the late Dr. W. W. and Cora Bal lard Baker, he was a member of the Presbyterian church at Barboursville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Trinity Methodist church. W. A. Debar, C. C. Yakes and A. W. Grosscup will off iciate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park at Hamlin with Johnson and Koontz mortuary of Hamlin in charge.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jennie Brown Baker; a brother , Edgar L., and two sisters, Mrs. Maude May and Mrs. Dais y Hess, both of Huntington.
