Wahiawa, Hawaii Sgt. Allen Frank Stevens Jr., 35, originally from Chesapeake, Va., and Oak Hill, passed away Aug. 10, 2006, in Wahiawa, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army at the Schofield Barracks.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1970, in Bethesda, Md., the son of Allen F. Stevens Sr. and Drema McKinney Stevens of Oak Hill.
Sgt. Stevens was a signal support systems specialist, assigned to the 25th Infantry Divisions 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery with the U.S. Army station in Wahiawa, and had been stationed at Schofield Barracks since July 2003. He served in Afghanistan with the 25th Divisions 2nd Brigade in 2004 and earned the following awards and decorations: Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge and Weapons Qualification Badge-Sharpshooter M16 Rifle. He had served in the Army since November 2002.
He graduated in 1988 from Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, and was awarded an Apprenticeship Scholarship at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va., where he was employed until 1998. He attended two years of college at Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hubert and Nina Dempsey McKinney; and paternal grandparents, Jack and Angelina Laino Stevens.
Besides his parents, those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Stephenie Redden Stevens; a son, Finnigan "Finn" Stevens of Wahiawa; a stepdaughter, Hannah F. Greer of Minford, Ohio; a sister, Laura Marchman and husband, Brian, of Elgin, S.C.; a brother, Jack Stevens and wife, Nikki, of Columbia, S.C.; a nephew, Jesse Allen Marchman of Elgin; and two nieces, Laila Elizabeth Marchman of Elgin and Drema Ann Stevens of Oak Hill.
Service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Allen Dooley officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with military honors to be conducted at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to a trust fund being established at BB&T Bank, 101 Main St., Oak Hill, WV 25901, for his son, Finnigan Stevens.
