Ansted - Mrs. Fannie Noble Dempsey, 85, died Tuesday in a Beckley nursing home after a long illness. Born. Sept. 17, 1895, in Ansted, she was a daughter of the late John and Nancy Cameron Noble. Her husband, Oscar Dempsey, died in 1940. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Helen Jones of Galion, Ohio and Mildred Benger and a son, Eugene Dempsey, both of Ansted; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home chapel in Ansted with the Rev. Wendell Hoge officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens at Victor. Friends may call Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Ansted - Eugene N. Dempsey, 86, of Ansted, passed away Friday, May 11, 2001, at Hidden Valley Nursing Home, Oak Hill, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1914, in Ansted, he was the son of the late Oscar and Fannie Noble Dempsey.
Mr. Dempsey was retired from Alloy Union Carbide as an electrician and a member of Ansted Masonic Lodge, VFW of Fayetteville, American Legion of Fayetteville, CCC Alumni and Hopewell Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Price Dempsey, on March 8, 1992.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, with Pastor Brian Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7695 of Ansted and Gauley Bridge Post 8366.

Ansted Mayor Percy Benger Jr., 59, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, in an Oak Hill medical center apparently of a heart attack.
Born Nov. 20, 1922, in Charleston, he was a son of the late Percy Lawrence and Serepta Thompson Benger Sr.
Mr. Benger served as mayor of Ansted from March to June 1963, from 1969 to 1973, from 1975 to 1977, and from 1979 to Dec. 9, 1981. He served as a councilman between his terms as mayor.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Knights of Pythias, a past grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of West Virginia, the Pythians Sister, Hayden Masonic Lodge 113, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ansted and the American Legion.
He was a retired combination welder for Marathon Coal co. in Smithers.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Bonita Lucas of Victor; two sons, James Benger of Fayetteville, and John Benger of Ansted; three sisters; Martha McClure of Cannon, Ohio, and Betty Wardrap and Susan Hawver both of Ansted; a brother, David Benger of Ansted, and five grandchildren.
Services were held in Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home chapel in Ansted with the Rev. Bruce Richmond officating. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens at Victor.

Hamilton, Ohio - John Edward Vannatter Jr., 69, of Hamilton, formerly of Fayetteville, W.Va., died Sunday in Mercy South Hospital, Fairfield, after a long illness. He was a retired miner and a member of UMW. Surviving: son, Roy Allen of Lawton, Okla.; daughter, Lillian Marie Parrish of Hamilton; brothers, Richard Leon and Aaron Thomas, of Carlsbad, N.M., Paul Carlos of Oak Hill, W.Va.; sisters, Norma Kesterson of Fayetteville, Janis Hope Toney of Richwood, W.Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Dodd-Payne Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Ernest Barley officiating. Burial will be in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Hobert W. "Red" Dempsey, 79, of Victoria, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004.
He was born April 26, 1924, in Ansted, W. Va., to the late Roy Lee and Lillian Nunery Dempsey. He was a veteran of WWII, where he was a prisoner of war for six months in Germany. He was missionary in Brazil, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. He was a foreman with Westinghouse Refrigeration, retiring after 15 years of service. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Beatrice Wise Dempsey; daughters, Marilynne Estep of Newark, Ohio and Victoria Palmer of St. Cloud, Fla.; sons, Dr. James Shook of Victoria and Ricky Shook of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parkway Baptist Church, the Rev. Scott Weatherford officiating.
Graveside services with full military honors, under the auspices of Victoria Veterans Council, VFW, CWV, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion, Marine Corps League, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Crossroads Ex-POWs, Military Order of the World Wars and the Korean War Veterans, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ft.
